New work and a prize

 New Dawn Breakers oil 24 x 36"  SOLD at The Wright Gallery in Cape Porpoise, ME             Just got word this morning that this painting sold for the first major sale of the summer and on the first day of summer too!  On Saturday I was notified by Bold Brush contest for the month of May that my painting "Spring Morning at Durocher's Farm " was a juried Favorite 15% in the contest. One of my favorite barns

  Shaw's barn in Spring  12 x 16" oil    Here is one of my favorite barns and I enjoy painting the light and shadows on it through the foliage.   I also painted here in the fall with one of my classes and did this demo while teaching.       I am planning another painting from the other side of the house and barn at a different time of day .         Oakwoods Road is loaded with painting ideas for me. Last Light at Biddeford Pool

   Here is a painting I did on location last thursday night toward sundown at Biddeford Pool.    It was about ten degrees when I finished this one. Worth the effort though because I loved that light and crisp cold atmosphere.    Winter painting was really great this year but I am looking forward to spring and getting my outdoor classes going again!   [...]

The Olde Grist Mill

Still wet and here is a shot from this morning with it on the easel in front of the mill in Lebanon, Maine.   This is about 11 miles away from my house. I have been over there painting for the last few days now and really like it.    This painting is 12 x 12" in oils on canvas and when I started it the temp was 35 degrees. It got up to about 55 when I finished around 11am.           This is not on my web site yet . [...]

August afternoon at the Hamilton House

 This is a new painting that was done on location at the Hamilton House in South Berwick.  There was a wedding being held in the gardens to the left of the house. I promised my students a return trip to paint in the gardens the next time. It will be nice there in the fall . I like to paint there year round.          This is a photo after the wedding was over. A Touch of Fall

  Summer Sky on Oakwoods road  painted on location in North Berwick  A Touch of Fall   12 x 16 " oil  ( in the studio)   The first painting is the on location field study done last week. I added warmer colors to the metal roof on the barn and decided to add a bit of fall color to it since every gallery I show in will start looking for fall paintings now. It happens ever year at this time so I am getting ahead of it. I have other studies from last fall that can also be worked up.          [...]

My new student

 Well here are two more new paintings by my daughter Devyn. She is really doing well. It really helps that she is good at drawing and has loved to draw since she was young. I was the same and my dad always taught me about good drawing and being accurate.    Having my daughter take up painting has really been one of the highlights of this summer for me. I t makes me feel good to see her having fun and discovering oil and acrylic painting. This is is her second time painting on location. We chose a nice farm scene [...]
